iPhone 3 1 Update

Last Wednesday’s iPod/iTunes lovefest marked the introduction of the iPhone 3.1 update. I installed it on my iPhone 3GS without a problem though the process was very time-consuming. Figure on at least an hour to get this done. Of course it’s completely automatic: connect your iPhone to your Mac, and when iTunes launches click on the iPhone icon at the left, then Check for Updates. Then go do something else, because you don’t want to mess with the computer while the update is being done.

Keeping in mind that this is a free update*, you get a lot for your money. Apple has a list of the improvements but here’s the Executive Summary:

• Download ringtones
• Organize Apps via iTunes
• More flexible synching of music etc.
• Remotely lock the iPhone in case you lose it

Samsung Jet “smarter than a smartphone”

The Samsung Jet (aka S8000) has just been announced by Samsung USA, and the title of the press release is a bit offensive: “Samsung Jet - Smarter Than A Smartphone.” What exactly does that mean? Samsung says that the device supports multitasking and has Microsoft Exchange support baked in, but what about applications and an app store?

I am impressed by the 3.1 inch WVGA screen (800 x 480 pixels) that supports 16 million colors. Samsung seems to be the only manufacture out there trying to get OLED into as many devices as possible. I have no idea what their “Dolfin Web browser” is about, and I urge Samsung’s public relations people to take a look at how Apple , Sony Ericsson and Nokia write their press releases because no easy to find spec sheet makes me one disgruntled blogger.

Luckily Phone Arena has a prototype and has posted a preview! They’re happy the device has a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack and microUSB port, surprised to see the browser supporting Flash content, and genuinely think the device will do well if it is reasonably priced. Wish I could tell you when it will ship and how much it will cost, but only Samsung knows that and they’re not sharing the details.

Hari ini seperti biasa, gue, bangun telat lagi. Pukul 13:11 baru melek. Bukain jendela dan gorden, sayatan sinar matahari cukup menusuk. Mana cuaca nya panas. Kipas angin sendiri seperti tidak berfungsi, angin yang keluar justru angin panas bukan angin yang bisa sejukkan bodi hingga tidur bisa lebih terlelap lagi.

Bangun, menuju kamar mandi, cuci muka, periksa cosmos, syukur masih ada nasi, siap-siap neplok telor. Dan makan siang dimulai. Kemudian, bergegas ke kamar, buka laptop, colokin modem, its connecting, open tweetdeck dan siap berselancar di dunia twitter.

Tetiba gue inget, hari ini, tanggal ini dan pukul segini adalah waktunya seminar penulis paporit gue. Namanya Raditya Dika, biasa dipanggil dikung, itu sih menurut nama yang gue baca di novel nya. Penulis berumur sekitaran 26 tahun itu cukup ngebuka dunia imajinasi gue dalam menulis. Dia keren, sekilas sih. Itu pun liat nya dari gedung petronas pake sedotan termini di dunia. Sebelumnya gue tau kabar beliau ini akan seminar di Aceh, tepat di AAC Dayan Dawood dari segerombolan anak aceh yang ngebahas seputar dia di twitter. Dengan modal nguping, akhirnya gue nanya-nanya ke temen, dan dan daaaaaaaan bener dia bakal seminar di ACEH. Mulai sok sibuk gue nya, nanya ke temen yang sama-sama demen banget sama penulis ini, dan dia bilang juga iya, tapi, ini mungkin seperti merasakan tsunami bertubi-tubi, dia bilang undangannya habis. HABIS!!!!!

Terkapar, tersudut, seperti kehilangan jati diri, seminar yang gue tunggu-tunggu, penulis yang inner absurd so strong itu akan ke daerah gue, tapi gue nya gak bisa nonton. Menguras airmata sekali. Sangat-sangat menguras. Kalau di komposisiin ini kejadiannya persis seperti para bilieber yang gak bisa nonton konsernya, masang muka se-menderita banget nangis-nangis depan kamera infotaiment dan mulai curhat seputar KENAPA MEREKA GAK BISA NONTON!!!

Yah daripada-daripada, akhirnya gue menyejukkan kekesalan gue ke kafe biasa, ya sekedar ngopi, mungkin bisa lebih tenang.

RADITYA DIKA, apapun, di mana pun, kapan pun, gue bakal jumpai lo demi rasa ke-pans-an gue sama elo. TITIK!

Looks like my bud David over at TMoNews has scored some new device info yet again. With the myTouch 3G and Dash 3G hitting T-Mo next month, the ‘Highlight’ will join a rapidly expanding lineup. The device looks to be the very same Samsung ‘Spark’ that was seen in the leaked Walmart roadmap a little while back. T-Mobile launched the Research In Motion BlackBerry 8820, a QWERTY smartphone. Unlike the 8820 that has been available from AT&T for some time, the T-Mobile variant sports both a built-in GPS receiver and WiFi connectivity. The BlackBerry 8820’s WiFi allows it to be used with T-Mobile’s UMA-based HotSpot@Home service, which allows calls to be seamlessly transferred between a cellular network and a WiFi hotspot.
The BlackBerry 8820 also supports T-Mobile’s MyFaves service, which allows users to select 5 phone numbers which they can call with unlimited minutes.
